Bitcoin Falls Below $82,000: Investment Doubts Over Tesla and Sell-Off in Asia Hit the Market

Bitcoin’s promising growth came to a halt during Thursday’s trading session, with the price of the largest cryptocurrency sliding back below the psychological threshold of $82,000. Global markets were gripped by nervousness triggered by Tesla’s weaker-than-expected capital expenditures and a massive sell-off in Asian stocks, which immediately impacted sentiment toward risk assets.

Tesla Sobering and Sell-offs in Asian Markets

While on Wednesday the Bitcoin rate climbed as high as $84,840, Thursday’s developments brought a swift erasure of all gains and a return to $81,500. The main catalyst for the decline was the latest financial results from Tesla. Although revenue slightly missed estimates, investors were most concerned by capital expenditures of $4.73 billion compared to the nearly $8 billion expected. This gap raised doubts about the pace of artificial intelligence development, even though Elon Musk stated that investments would grow to tens of billions of dollars in the coming years.

The growing risk aversion, however, was not limited to American tech stocks. Significant pressure also came from Asia, where South Korea’s KOSPI stock index recorded a one-day drop of 3.52%. The sharp reaction of global investors to the tech news demonstrated how sensitively the current market responds to any signs of cooling capital flows into innovative sectors, which also dragged down the cryptocurrency market.

Tense Futures Market and a Key Support Level at the ETFs

The current correction is all the more risky as it comes at a time when the derivatives market is extremely tense. According to the analytics platform CoinGlass, the value of open futures contracts reached nearly $56 billion, while the aggregate open interest on perpetual contracts, according to the Kryptomagazín Terminal, is climbing toward $62 billion. Such massive leveraged positions increase the likelihood of cascading forced liquidations, which could sharply deepen any further price decline.

From a technical standpoint, analyst Rekt Capital points out that Bitcoin failed to break through the downward trend line stemming from previous highs. The zone between $80,000 and $81,500 — where strong buying support corresponding to the average entry price of US spot ETFs lies — will be absolutely crucial for the market’s future direction. If buyers manage to defend this level, it will open the way for a renewed test of the $84,840 level; otherwise, traders must prepare for another wave of declines.
