Crypto Market Suffers Billion-Dollar Massacre: Speculators Sent 55,600 BTC to Exchanges at a Loss

During the latest sell-off, Bitcoin plunged to $80,350, triggering widespread liquidations across the entire cryptocurrency market. In a single day, the value of liquidated positions reached nearly $1.1 billion. Significant pressure also comes from short-term holders, who sent 55,600 BTC to exchanges at a loss. Such behavior often indicates rising nervousness among newer investors. Bitcoin subsequently bounced back above $82,000, but a key level remains at risk, and its maintenance could determine whether the current decline turns into a deeper correction.

Bitcoin Drags Market into Billions in Liquidations

Crypto Market Experiences Billion-Dollar Massacre – Thursday’s sell-off hit the entire cryptocurrency market when Bitcoin first broke the $81,000 mark and then fell to $80,350 on the Bitstamp exchange. According to CoinGlass data, the value of liquidated cryptocurrency positions in 24 hours reached approximately $1.09 billion, marking the largest single-day wave of liquidations in the market since August 21. This time, bulls took the biggest hit, with long positions accounting for approximately $1.05 billion of the total liquidations, wiping out a significant number of leveraged bets on further growth.

After the plunge, Bitcoin erased some of its losses and returned to approximately $82,500, a level of critical importance for future development. In recent months, Bitcoin has used this threshold as a key price area within a broader uptrend and also represents the breakout level of an inverse head-and-shoulders formation. Analyst Rekt Capital emphasizes that if Bitcoin closes the week below $82,500 and begins to respect this level as resistance, the bullish scenario will significantly weaken, potentially sending the price back into a broader macro accumulation zone.

Speculators Sent 55,600 BTC to Exchanges Fearing Capitulation

Crypto Market Experiences Billion-Dollar Massacre – Even more interesting data from the blockchain reveals that short-term holders sent 55,600 BTC to cryptocurrency exchanges at a loss. This specific group of investors tends to be more sensitive to fear during sharp market fluctuations. The amount of Bitcoin transferred to exchanges at a loss even surpassed figures from late June when the price dropped below $60,000. This indicates that investors are currently executing loss-making transfers at a significantly higher BTC price, driven by fears that further declines will deepen their current losses.

According to historical data, aggressive BTC transfers at a loss can signal a short-term capitulation of weaker holders, which sometimes helps the market create conditions for a subsequent recovery. However, the market now needs to show whether these coins will ultimately be sold off, or if investors have merely prepared their positions for further developments. The $82,500 threshold remains the ultimate decisive factor. Its recapture and confirmation as support are absolutely essential to prove that this was merely a painful correction and not the start of a deeper decline.
