According to the latest survey by Reown and YouGov, among more than 1,000 users in the US and the UK, two forces in particular are driving the rapid adoption of cryptocurrencies: payments and artificial intelligence. These areas are fundamentally changing the way people think about the use of digital currencies in their everyday lives.
Crypto payments are moving from the fringe to the mainstream
The crypto payments sector is experiencing sustained growth – according to the survey, 34% of respondents actively use them. People use crypto to pay for everyday purchases, for international transfers and, increasingly, for payments in the gig economy. This trend has even surpassed popular DeFi tools such as staking and yield farming, which previously dominated among tech enthusiasts.
Interestingly, 27% of survey participants believe that payments will be the main use case for blockchain in the next three to five years. This shows growing confidence in cryptocurrencies as a practical tool with real benefits. We are also seeing a significant shift in the use of stablecoins, which enable safer and more predictable payments thanks to their stable value.
Artificial intelligence facilitates adoption and increases security
Artificial intelligence also plays an important role in the spread of cryptocurrencies. AI simplifies navigation in the crypto world, automates investment strategies, and protects users from fraud. According to Reown CEO Jess Houlgrave, AI and payments reinforce each other—AI ensures a smooth user experience and helps build trust.
At the same time, it helps streamline onboarding, audits, and the day-to-day operations of crypto services. AI makes it easier for companies to integrate cryptocurrencies into their systems, and users don’t have to worry about complicated processes. The result is an environment where cryptocurrencies are not only technologically advanced but also user-friendly and practical.
