Bitcoin is king, but not the only player
Bitcoin (BTC) has been and still is synonymous with cryptocurrencies. As the first digital currency, it became the foundation of the entire market, a store of value and “digital gold,” as investors often refer to it. In the eyes of many, it is a safe haven that survives both bear and bull cycles.
But with the growing adoption and development of the crypto market, attention is increasingly turning to altcoins – alternative cryptocurrencies that emerged after Bitcoin and often bring technological innovations, different uses, or higher yield potential. Examples include Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Chainlink (LINK), and Render (RNDR).

The question today is not just “Bitcoin or not?”, but “Bitcoin or altcoins?” And this is where the rubber meets the road.
Altseason: When altcoins come to the fore
Every crypto cycle has its own rules and rhythm. The first player to wake up is usually Bitcoin. As soon as it starts to rise sharply, it attracts the attention of the media, retail investors, and institutions. Subsequently, money begins to flow into altcoins—a phenomenon known as “altseason”.
According to analysts and on-chain data, we are currently approaching a period when altcoins could once again take center stage. Some are already seeing double-digit daily gains, while Bitcoin is stagnating or correcting. This phase is usually extremely profitable for experienced investors – but also very volatile.
For Czech investors who are active in crypto and follow the market not only from a HODL perspective but also through active trading, it is crucial to understand the signals of altseason, where the market is currently heading, and how it may evolve in the coming months.

What do altcoins offer compared to Bitcoin?
Altcoins are not just speculation. Many projects offer real use cases and technological advances.
- Ethereum introduced the concept of smart contracts, which changed the way we perceive decentralized applications.
- Solana attracts with its extreme speed and low fees.
- Chainlink connects the real world to the blockchain through decentralized oracles.
- Polygon (MATIC) extends Ethereum’s scalability.
Many altcoins are now significantly cheaper than their historical highs — sometimes by as much as 80–90%. This creates potential for profit, but also the need for careful selection. Not every project will survive.
Why Bitcoin remains important
Although altcoins may offer higher returns, Bitcoin remains the cornerstone of any serious investor’s portfolio. This is due to its decentralization, limited supply, highest market capitalization, and trust from institutional players.
BTC is also often considered a “market barometer” — when Bitcoin falls, altcoins usually fall even more. Conversely, Bitcoin’s growth often triggers further waves of optimism, from which altcoins subsequently profit.
At the turn of 2024/2025, predictions are once again emerging that BTC could reach new historic highs – there is even talk of a threshold of $150,000. If this happens, it is likely that altcoins will explode even more.

How to think like an investor: Diversification, not dogma
For Czech investors who don’t just want to speculate but want to build a long-term portfolio, diversification between Bitcoin and selected altcoins is key.
While Bitcoin can form the “core” with lower risk, altcoins can be the “growth component” that brings the potential for higher returns. However, the key is to understand individual projects, follow the news and fundamentals, and avoid “hype” projects with no real use.
Useful tools include:
- on-chain analysis (Glassnode, CryptoQuant),
- trend monitoring on social media (X/Twitter, Reddit),
- developments on crypto wallets and exchanges (Coinbase, Binance, Metamask),
- and, of course, news from verified sources, ideally combined with your own judgment.
Altcoins or Bitcoin? The conclusion depends on the goal
There is no universal answer to the question “Altcoins vs. Bitcoin.” If you are looking for stability, trust, and less volatility, Bitcoin remains the clear choice. However, if you are willing to take risks and follow the dynamic development of the crypto scene, selected altcoins may offer interesting potential.
The year 2025 is shaping up to be a key point for both segments. The approaching altseason may reward those who correctly recognize the wave. But don’t forget — where there is high profit, there is also high risk.
