The company also stated that, in cooperation with other entities, it managed to freeze assets worth approximately three billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A more detailed look at the events was provided by the analytics firm&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trmlabs.com\/resources\/blog\/north-korea-steals-usd-6-36-billion-from-binance-in-the-largest-hack-in-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRM Labs<\/a>, which tracks the movement of digital assets on the blockchain. According to its analysis, on October 29 the attackers moved cryptocurrencies worth approximately 6.36 billion dollars out of Binance wallets. The transactions took place across ten blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the funds left within about twenty minutes. The attackers were thus able to move, in an exceptionally short time, assets whose value exceeds the largest known cryptocurrency thefts to date several times over. For comparison, in the hack of the Bybit cryptocurrency exchange in February 2025, digital assets worth approximately 1.5 billion dollars disappeared. However, the exact mechanism of the attack has not yet been definitively confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings so far thus suggest that the security of the company&#8217;s internal systems may have played a key role. Similar incidents are not exclusively a problem of the cryptocurrency sector. Attackers commonly target employees of banks, technology companies and cloud service providers as well. A compromised work account or device can allow them to bypass otherwise robust security measures. Its security does not depend on a single company or a single central server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Binance, by contrast, is a centralized trading platform. It allows investors to buy, sell and store cryptocurrencies, while its own infrastructure is responsible for managing the funds held on the exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If an attacker gains access to a system that allows withdrawals from exchange wallets to be authorized, they can transfer funds through otherwise properly functioning blockchain networks. The mere execution of an unauthorized transaction therefore does not mean that Bitcoin&#8217;s security has been breached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings so far about the Binance incident thus point primarily to the risks associated with the centralized management of digital assets. This does not mean, however, that decentralized services or self-custody cryptocurrency wallets are automatically risk-free. It temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals, revoked the affected permissions, and began cooperating with security analysts and law enforcement authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, it assured customers that their funds remain safe and that it will cover any losses caused by the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To do so, it intends to use its own funds and the SAFU security reserve fund, which was created precisely for emergencies such as hacker attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What will matter, however, is whether the company can not only replace the stolen assets, but also demonstrate transparently that it still holds sufficient reserves to cover its obligations to clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2026\/10\/30\/binance-hack-drained-wallets-backing-customer-assets-reserve-data-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoinDesk&#8217;s analysis<\/a>,&nbsp;some of the compromised wallets appeared in Binance&#8217;s previous reserves overview as assets used to back customer balances. Their drainage therefore raises questions about the current state of the reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Binance has promised that once remedial measures are completed, it will publish an updated Proof of Reserves report, a document proving that customer funds are fully backed. According to security analysts, this group was also involved in the earlier attack on the Bybit exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Binance&#8217;s case, however, this is not yet a conclusion definitively confirmed by an independent investigation or by the exchange itself. The incident has also shown how significant a role the transparency of the <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/revolution-is-coming-to-wall-street-banks-want-to-move-stocks-onto-the-blockchain-with-30-trillion-at-stake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blockchain<\/a> can play in tracking down stolen cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The movement of funds can be traced on public blockchain networks. Security firms can therefore monitor transactions and identify addresses linked to the attackers. In cooperation with stablecoin issuers such as Tether and Circle, part of the funds has already been frozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ability to freeze funds, however, is not universal. For some centrally issued tokens, their issuers can intervene directly, whereas bitcoin, for example, cannot be blocked on the blockchain by the unilateral decision of a single company.
