Banking giants such as JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley have joined the project. The securities involved have a market value of approximately $30 trillion. The change, which could fundamentally transform the way Wall Street operates, could eventually affect small investors as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine that you own shares of an American company and want to transfer them to another investor. While such a transaction today depends on the infrastructure of banks, brokers, and other financial institutions, in the future transferring a security could be as simple as sending a digital asset between two electronic wallets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American company Depository Trust &amp; Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has now taken a significant step toward this kind of financial market. The institution, which sits at the very center of U.S. securities trading, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dtcc.com\/press-releases\/2026\/dtcc-tokenization-service-goes-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> the launch of its new DTCC Tokenization Service on Wednesday, October 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And although at first glance it may seem like just another technology experiment, this time the situation is considerably different. Trillions of Dollars Are at Stake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DTCC is one of the key pillars of the American financial system. Through its subsidiaries, it provides trade settlement, record-keeping, and custody of securities. Its depository, DTC, administers assets worth more than $114 trillion. Now it wants to connect part of this infrastructure with the blockchain, a technology known primarily thanks to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2026\/10\/28\/wall-street-backbone-dtcc-brings-usd30-trillion-securities-closer-to-blockchain-with-major-banks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">information from CoinDesk<\/a>, 34 selected securities could be tokenized at the launch of the service, with a combined market value of approximately $30 trillion. They include U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and U.S. government bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not mean, however, that securities of that value have actually been moved onto the blockchain already. The figure reflects the scope of assets that the new infrastructure makes it possible to tokenize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The names of the financial institutions that have decided to use the project are also important. So far, 20 participants have signed agreements for access to the service, including JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citi, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity Investments, State Street, and UBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The involvement of such significant players suggests that blockchain is ceasing to be merely an experimental technology associated with cryptocurrencies. It is a process in which the rights associated with a real asset are converted into a digital form that can be recorded and transferred via a blockchain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the case of stocks, this means that alongside their traditional record, there can exist a digital token representing the corresponding rights to the security. Take, for example, a share of a large American company that a financial institution holds through the DTC depository. Instead of transferring it solely through traditional systems, an authorized participant can create a corresponding digital representation and transfer it to a registered blockchain wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The underlying security remains in the depository&#8217;s custody. The token represents the relevant claim to that asset and can subsequently be converted back to traditional form. This is precisely the fundamental difference from some crypto products that merely track the price of stocks. The DTCC service is designed so that the tokenized form preserves the economic and ownership rights, as well as the investor protection, corresponding to traditional holding of a security through a depository.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A solution like this matters not only for trading itself, but also for transfers of assets between banks, their use as collateral, and more efficient management of investment portfolios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-akcie-pujde-prevadet-i-o-vikendu-ma-to-ale-hacek\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stocks Will Be Transferable Even on Weekends. But There&#8217;s a Catch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the greatest advantages of blockchain is that its technical infrastructure does not have to be limited by the regular working hours of financial institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. stock exchanges traditionally operate within precisely defined trading hours. Although some brokerage platforms allow trading outside the main session, the settlement of trades itself remains subject to the rules of the financial system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since May 2024, most U.S. stock trades have been settled by default on a T+1 basis, that is, one business day after the transaction takes place. This follows from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investor.gov\/introduction-investing\/general-resources\/news-alerts\/alerts-bulletins\/investor-bulletins\/new-t1-settlement-cycle-what-investors-need-know-investor-bulletin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the rules of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)<\/a>. Tokenization has the potential to speed up the entire process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new DTCC service already makes it possible to transfer tokenized securities between approved digital wallets around the clock, including at night and on weekends. However, the conversion of a traditional security into a token itself remains limited in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also essential to distinguish the transfer of a token from trading on an exchange. Financial institutions routinely use stocks, bonds, and other securities as collateral for their trades. If a bank wants, for example, to provide a particular asset as collateral to another institution, its transfer must be properly recorded and settled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These operations can be administratively demanding, especially when they involve several institutions, different time zones or different financial systems. Blockchain could simplify the entire process substantially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the supported infrastructure, a tokenized asset can be transferred between authorized participants more quickly, which may allow banks to respond more flexibly to market demands. At the same time, the need to keep part of their funds idle solely because of slower settlement could decrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economic benefit, however, will not be automatic. <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/banks-are-heading-into-crypto-in-the-european-mica-register-they-already-account-for-nearly-a-quarter-of-providers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Banks<\/a> will have to invest in technical infrastructure, the security of digital wallets and the integration of blockchain systems with existing processes. It will also matter how many institutions actually start using the new technology. If the technology catches on at a larger scale, it may gradually change the way investors buy, sell and manage their securities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One possibility is faster access to money after selling an investment. Whereas today a trade has to go through standard settlement, linking tokenized assets with digital money could in the future allow the security and the payment to be transferred almost simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another change could be extended trading hours or easier transfers of <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/glimpses-from-btc-prague-2026-bitcoin-is-not-just-an-investment-its-a-question-of-trust-money-and-control-over-ones-own-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investments<\/a> between financial institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tokenization may also make it easier to divide certain assets into smaller investment shares. However, the mere existence of a token does not automatically mean that every stock will be available in arbitrarily small fractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the average investor, it is also important to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/newsroom\/speeches-statements\/corp-fin-statement-tokenized-securities-012826-statement-tokenized-securities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">distinguish<\/a> between a token that genuinely represents rights to the underlying security and a product whose value merely tracks the stock&#8217;s price. However, this does not automatically mean that bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies must start rising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At launch, the new DTCC service is connected to the Canton Network blockchain and to a private network based on Besu technology. In 2027, the company expects to involve additional blockchain networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice of technological infrastructure will be important precisely for companies that specialize in blockchain solutions for financial institutions. Growing use of blockchain may create new business opportunities for infrastructure providers, digital asset managers or companies developing technology for their custody and transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet one cannot simply assume that every new tokenized stock will increase demand for bitcoin or any other specific cryptocurrency. Institutional blockchain systems can operate without directly using them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From an investor&#8217;s perspective, it is therefore more important to watch specific business models and the actual use of the technology than to merely expect cryptocurrency prices to rise on the back of positive news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-zacina-nova-era-financnich-trhu\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is a new era of financial markets beginning?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch of the DTCC service is an important moment above all because it connects blockchain with the existing, heavily regulated infrastructure of the U.S. capital market. The project follows the limited regulatory regime approval that the company obtained from the SEC in December 2025. It allows the service to operate under set conditions for a period of three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, the technology is no longer just at the stage of theoretical proposals. In July of this year, DTCC, together with more than thirty companies, successfully carried out the first production transactions with tokenized assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, however, comes a considerably harder task: proving that the solution can work reliably in day-to-day operation and at higher transaction volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether tokenization truly transforms Wall Street will therefore be decided not by the launch of the new service itself, but above all by its practical use, its security and its ability to deliver measurable savings to financial institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For small investors, nothing changes immediately for now. But if the technology succeeds in gaining traction, the way <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/germany-wants-to-tax-bitcoin-like-stocks-one-of-europes-biggest-tax-advantages-may-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stocks<\/a> are recorded, transferred and settled may change over the coming years.
