It is important to emphasize, however, that this figure represents the target speed of the new protocol, not a guaranteed time for every individual <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/eu-wants-to-switch-off-cryptocurrencies-for-russia-can-all-crypto-transactions-really-be-banned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transaction<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, even before Alpenglow was actually launched, Solana had already shortened the intervals between blocks, meaning that actual finality at that time, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galaxy.com\/insights\/perspectives\/alpenglow-what-we-learned-running-solanas-biggest-consensus-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an analysis by Galaxy<\/a>, had already reached approximately six seconds. Yet even compared to that figure, the new protocol promises a substantial speed-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initial operational data also suggest that the network is indeed operating in the range of hundreds of milliseconds. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcoinbuzz.io\/solana-activates-alpenglow-targeting-150ms-finality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">information published on October 22<\/a>, Solana&#8217;s official monitoring system showed one measured value of 202 milliseconds. Validators are computers participating in blockchain operations whose task is to verify transactions and contribute to the security of the entire network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the original system, validators had to record their votes directly on the blockchain. This process generated a large number of additional transactions and lengthened the time needed to finally approve individual blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alpenglow changes this approach. Validators now communicate directly with each other, and their votes are combined into cryptographic confirmations. If a sufficient share of validators agree on a block&#8217;s validity, it can be finally approved within a single round of voting. In cases of lower participation, the mechanism allows confirmation to be completed in the next round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is not only a significant reduction in confirmation time, but also more efficient use of blockchain capacity. Solana now has technology that could significantly shorten the wait for the final settlement of digital transactions.
