A single <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/bitcoin-awaits-the-next-impulse-a-key-battle-may-unfold-at-57600\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Bitcoin<\/a> address doesn&#8217;t necessarily represent one person, and one person or company can simultaneously control thousands of addresses. Moreover, in the case of cryptocurrency exchanges, huge balances often represent their customers&#8217; funds stored in cold storage, not the company&#8217;s own assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s precisely why you won&#8217;t find Satoshi Nakamoto at the top of this ranking. Arkham Intelligence attributes approximately 1.096 million BTC to Bitcoin&#8217;s anonymous creator, but his wealth is divided among a large number of addresses associated with Bitcoin mining in the early years of its existence. Binance \u2013 248,598 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the very top stands address 34xp4vRoCGJym3xR7yCVPFHoCNxv4Twseo, which BitInfoCharts identifies as a cold wallet of the Binance exchange. It contains approximately 248,598 BTC, representing about 1.24% of bitcoins in circulation. At prices captured at the time of compiling the ranking, this amounted to approximately 15.9 billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, this does not mean that nearly a quarter million bitcoins belong to the founders of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Binance<\/a>. Exchange wallets function as collective vaults for the funds of a large number of customers. Binance again \u2013 200,818 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second place is perhaps even more surprising: it is once again occupied by Binance. The second large cold wallet holds approximately 200,818 BTC, representing bitcoins worth roughly 12.9 billion dollars. Just during the last 30 days before compiling the ranking, its balance increased by nearly 19,500 BTC according to BitInfoCharts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, just the two largest known Binance addresses contain nearly 450,000 BTC. This is a clear example of why the number of addresses cannot be confused with the number of investors \u2013 one institution can control several spots in the global TOP 10 simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-3-robinhood-140-850-btc-16\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Robinhood \u2013 140,850 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bronze position is held by a cold wallet associated with the Robinhood platform. The address contains approximately 140,850 BTC, whose value at the time of compiling the ranking exceeded nine billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinhood confirms that the majority of <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/the-fed-will-decide-on-rates-today-bitcoin-and-cryptocurrencies-face-one-of-the-most-important-days-of-the-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">cryptocurrencies<\/a> purchased through its platform are stored in offline cold storage, while only a portion remains in hot wallets needed for regular operations. The enormous balance thus again represents primarily customer infrastructure, not one exceptionally wealthy investor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-4-bitfinex-130-010-btc-19\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Bitfinex \u2013 130,010 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fourth largest individual address is associated with the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange and contains approximately 130,010 BTC, valued at over eight billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Binance, Bitfinex uses large cold wallets to securely store cryptocurrencies outside the environment commonly accessible from the internet. Tether \u2013 96,932 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fifth position is different. The address designated as Tether contains approximately 96,932 BTC, representing more than six billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tether is known primarily as the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, but it has long invested part of its corporate capital in Bitcoin as well. For example, the company reported bitcoin positions worth around seven billion dollars in its results for the first quarter of 2026. Unlike a typical exchange cold wallet, this is therefore a much more interesting example of a company using Bitcoin as part of its own investment strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-6-bitfinex-hack-recovery-94-643-btc-26\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Bitfinex Hack Recovery \u2013 94,643 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sixth address has a considerably darker history. It contains approximately 94,643 BTC and BitInfoCharts designates it as Bitfinex Hack Recovery. These are coins related to the massive hacker attack on Bitfinex in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the attack, 119,754 BTC were stolen. U.S. authorities subsequently announced in 2022 the seizure of more than 94,000 BTC, when investigators obtained private keys to a wallet containing a significant portion of the stolen coins. At the time, it represented cryptocurrencies worth approximately 3.6 billion dollars. Today, the value of a similar amount of BTC is significantly higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-7-neznama-velryba-91-850-btc-29\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Unknown whale \u2013 91,850 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At seventh place begins a real blockchain detective story. The address with approximately 91,850 BTC is not publicly assigned in the BitInfoCharts database to any known exchange, company or institution. Its balance corresponds to a value of around 5.9 billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is precisely where one of the most interesting properties of Bitcoin becomes apparent: wealth is public, identity is not. The entire world can track the movement of coins, but unless the owner themselves discloses their address or it is linked to a specific entity by analytical companies, it is not easy to determine from the blockchain who controls the private keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-8-mt-gox-hack-79-957-btc-32\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Mt. Gox Hack \u2013 79,957 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eighth address is associated with one of the most famous disasters in cryptocurrency history \u2013 the collapse of the Mt. Gox exchange. BitInfoCharts designates it as &#8220;MtGox-Hack&#8221; and records approximately 79,957 BTC on it, representing more than five billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most remarkable aspect of the address is primarily the fact that, according to tracked data, it has not executed any outgoing transactions. This is an example of how some of the largest bitcoin treasuries are not the result of current institutional accumulation, but remnants of dramatic events from the early era of cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-9-dalsi-anonymni-miliardova-adresa-78-317-btc-35\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Another anonymous billion-dollar address \u2013 78,317 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ninth place belongs to another address without a clearly publicly confirmed owner. It holds approximately 78,317 BTC valued at around five billion dollars. According to BitInfoCharts, the first coins appeared at this address in March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is precisely addresses like this that are a frequent source of speculation about &#8220;bitcoin whales.&#8221; Without further evidence, however, it is not possible to say whether they represent one billionaire, an investment fund, an asset manager, an exchange or another institution. Mr. 100 \u2013 73,924 BTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The top ten is rounded out by one of the most watched bitcoin addresses in recent years, which the community nicknamed &#8220;Mr. 100&#8221;. As of August 18, it held approximately 73,924 BTC valued at 4.7 billion dollars. Just during the previous 30 days, its balance grew by approximately another 660 BTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nickname arose due to repeated transfers in blocks of approximately 100 BTC. This led to speculation that it is a mysterious billionaire or sovereign fund. However, analyses have also appeared linking the activity to exchange custody infrastructure. This corresponds to more than 6% of all bitcoins that were mined by mid-August 2026. The four addresses alone with more than 100,000 BTC, according to BitInfoCharts, hold a combined total of approximately 720,000 BTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the figure may appear more centralized than reality actually is. For example, the two largest addresses are managed by Binance, others by Robinhood and Bitfinex. Thus, behind a single address there may economically be millions of customers who have much smaller individual balances on the exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-kdo-tedy-vlastni-nejvice-bitcoinu-46\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">So who owns the most bitcoins?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we flip the question and track entire identified entities instead of individual addresses, the ranking changes dramatically. Arkham Intelligence in July 2026 attributed approximately 1.096 million BTC to Satoshi Nakamoto. Coinbase managed around 980,000 BTC, Strategy held approximately 844,000 BTC, <a href=\"https:\/\/trader-magazine.com\/reviews\/about-company-blackrock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">BlackRock<\/a> around 732,000 BTC, and Binance about 675,000 BTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, not all values can be interpreted the same way here either. Bitcoin held by Strategy represents corporate treasury, while Coinbase or Binance largely function as custodians of client funds. BlackRock, in turn, holds BTC primarily in connection with its investment products. &#8220;Who has the private keys?&#8221; and &#8220;Who owns the economic value of the bitcoins?&#8221; are therefore two completely different questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that is perhaps the most interesting paradox of bitcoin wealth. The blockchain can show with absolute precision how much money is located at a particular address, but even the public ledger may not reveal who is actually sitting on the other side.
