New BTC are created as part of the reward to miners for mined blocks. Approximately once every four years, more precisely every 210,000 blocks, a so-called halving occurs, in which the newly issued amount of bitcoins is reduced by half. As <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.org\/en\/vocabulary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Bitcoin.org<\/a> explains, it is this mechanism that ensures predictable issuance and a final limit of approximately 21 million coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the beginning of the Bitcoin network in 2009, the block reward was 50 BTC. Through successive halvings, it has been reduced to the current 3.125 BTC per block after the halving in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The process will continue for several more decades. Central banks can influence the money supply depending on the economic situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the supply of gold is not absolutely fixed. If its price rises over the long term, it may become economically viable to mine deposits whose exploitation was previously too expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Bitcoin, the situation is different. A higher BTC price may attract more miners to mining and increase the network&#8217;s power, but it does not in itself cause faster creation of new bitcoins. Approximately every two weeks, the network adjusts the mining difficulty so that blocks continue to be created on average approximately once every ten minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-muze-nekdo-limit-21-milionu-bitcoinu-zmenit-22\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can anyone change the 21 million bitcoin limit?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A common question is whether the 21 million limit is truly final. Bitcoin is, after all, software, and software can be modified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theoretically yes. Practically, however, changing one of Bitcoin&#8217;s most fundamental rules would require broad support from participants in the decentralized network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin does not have a central institution that could simply decide that instead of 21 million, 30 or 50 million BTC will be mined, for example. Individual network nodes choose for themselves the software and rules they accept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economic incentives of bitcoin holders are one of the reasons why changing the limit would be extremely difficult. Limited supply alone does not guarantee price growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The price of any asset arises from the collision of supply and demand. If something is rare but nobody wants to own it, scarcity alone will not create a high price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same principle applies to Bitcoin. However, bitcoin doesn&#8217;t need to be purchased in whole units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One BTC can be divided into 100 million satoshi, with one satoshi representing 0.00000001 BTC.
