This type of cryptography, in a much more advanced form, also protects <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/en\/bitcoin-brings-capital-back-into-the-game-investors-pour-billions-into-cryptocurrencies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">bitcoin<\/a>. The experiment used a modified version of Shor&#8217;s algorithm, which has long been considered one of the main reasons why quantum computers could one day change the rules of digital security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s important to note that bitcoin works with 256-bit keys, so the difference between a laboratory experiment and a real attack is still enormous. Nevertheless, the demonstration is significant: it shows the direction of development and reminds us that the barrier between theory and practice may gradually shrink. Estimates speak of hundreds of billions of dollars in BTC that could theoretically be exposed to risk, although today&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/trader-magazine.com\/stock-market\/how-quantum-computers-could-transform-investing-a-technology-that-may-rewrite-market-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">technology<\/a> does not yet allow such an attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real risk is therefore not that quantum computers will crack bitcoin tomorrow. The risk lies in the slow preparation of the ecosystem. If development accelerates, it will be necessary to address new signature methods, migration of older addresses, and a broader transition to post-quantum cryptography.
