It is thus hovering near last Friday’s lows, when Bitcoin briefly fell to $60,000 after a massive sell-off, its lowest level since fall 2024. Cryptocurrencies are now diverging from stock price trends, according to Bloomberg.

Don’t miss: MadisonSix

Asian stocks at record highs, bitcoin remains under pressure

For example, the MSCI Asia Pacific Index, which tracks stock prices in Asian markets, added about 1.5 percent in the morning and climbed above 256 points, a record high. In contrast, bitcoin has fallen nearly 50 percent from its peak last fall. This difference points to a lack of investor confidence in a more sustained recovery for cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, was down 3.3 percent before noon today, hovering around $66,350. Shortly after 3:00 p.m. CET, it was down 1.8 percent over the past 24 hours to $67,589. Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, was down 3.1 percent to $1,956 at the same time. In the morning, it fell below $1,935. In contrast, the MSCI Asia Pacific stock index is extending its performance advantage over US and European indices this year. The emerging market stock index also reached a record high, while the dollar weakened.

“We believe that last week’s low of around $60,000, created by exceptionally high trading volumes, represents a capitulation low. However, a clear catalyst for a more sustained recovery remains unclear,” said Tony Sycamore, an analyst at IG Australia.

Bitcoin hit a record high last October, when it rose above $125,000. Markets are once again anticipating that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will return to cutting base interest rates. However, even this is not providing support for digital tokens. Weak trading volumes point to the gloomy mood that has plagued the sector since last October. Although large investors have started buying Bitcoin again, the token’s inability to attract broader demand increases the risk of further declines.

You may be interested in: FX Junction

The Fed may cut rates, but Bitcoin remains under pressure

“The rapid decline in price to $60,000 without a corresponding increase in volume indicates weak demand and a lack of conviction among buyers at mid-levels,” wrote Kaiko analyst Laurens Fraussen in a note. “This, combined with moderate selling pressure, creates vulnerability to further declines,” he added.

According to Martin Stránský, director of the Bit.plus exchange, the further decline in the price of bitcoin is attracting investors to buy. In the last week alone, purchase volumes have increased by about 20 percent compared to the same period in January. “Part of the market is betting that bitcoin will return to growth and is therefore starting to buy, even though short-term speculation is a highly risky activity.

These corrections are typical for Bitcoin and do not represent a change in fundamentals in the long term. Moreover, history shows that similar price declines tend to be a consolidation phase rather than the beginning of a long-term decline,” Stránský told ČTK. According to Rostislav Plachý of Golden Gate, the current decline is due to a combination of several factors.

Some investors are realizing profits after previous strong growth, and uncertainty in global markets, a stronger dollar, and a more cautious mood among investors toward riskier assets are also playing a role. Bitcoin was created in 2009 as an alternative to official currencies. It is based on blockchain technology, which is a decentralized ledger that allows data, not just cryptocurrencies, to be sent transparently and securely. In 2010, bitcoin was worth less than one dollar.

Source: ČTK

Read more: yPredict

The most well-known cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, continues to fall today, with its price dropping below $67,000 in the morning before returning above that level in the afternoon.
