British Airways, Shell and the BBC, for example, did not escape attack last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Public institutions have also become victims<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ransomware<\/strong> is software that aims to disable or severely restrict a victim&#8217;s access to data or entire systems until they pay a ransom.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Criminals often target institutions such as hospitals, schools and <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/vlada-projedna-regulaci-trhu-s-kryptoaktivy-a-nastaveni-pravomoci-cnb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">government offices<\/a> online in this way.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The study cannot take into account all illegal activities<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the last few years, however, the prevailing strategy has been to &#8220;hunt the big animals&#8221;, i.e. big companies.  <\/strong>Payments of $1 million or more account for a dominant share of total ransom revenue, Chainalysis found.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data in the study underestimates the role of cryptocurrencies in all crimes because it only tracks <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto-globe.com\/cena-bitcoinu-prekonala-72-000-usd-blizi-se-takzvany-halving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">cryptocurrencies<\/a> sent to wallet addresses flagged as illegal, Reuters points out.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, the research does not account for cryptocurrency payments in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ransom payments in cryptocurrencies due to ransomware attacks nearly doubled last year, reaching $1.1 billion (CZK 23.5 billion).
